Insidious: Chapter 2, with Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne & Barbara Hershey. Director, James Wan. While the original film was effective, I had a very difficult time being scared in this predictable & bumbling, near-comedy. Not admirable for a horror film.
Basically, Wilson retraced his steps in this supposed solution to the first film & Hershey continued her earnest participation. Both are excellent actors, if they’re cast in something of quality & not a quick, scare flick, that goes east on the fright & is heavy on mediocre special effects. One would think at least the cost of the actor’s salaries was spent, plus 30 dollars for the film’s cinematic budget. However; what the film lacked in sincerity, it seemed the audience enjoyed it nevertheless. Not screaming, but laughing on several occasions as characters were injured. If you can believe it! It’s true & I witnessed it.
All in all, I would compare it to an amusement park house of horror. Something to take a date to, but not a destination for any connoisseur of horror & mystique.
I won’t recommend this film, unless you’re in the mood for fun & Barbara Hershey. Goddess of a bygone era.
It’s not bad.
