Film Review: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Chris Evans & Scarlett Johansson) Old evils rise within

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie & Sebastian Stan.  Though a little bit less spectacular, story-wise, than I thought it would be; nevertheless I enthusiastically applaud this Marvel adventure.

Evans is at his dramatic best, as the reconstituted hero from the past.  Who, somehow, isn’t the only power from his generation to rise in the present.  I do like Evans; he is the perfect hero, through & through.  Even in a film that uses the old formula of “betrayal within the ranks” as its main focus, with a dash of personal conflict when confronting an old ghost.

Otherwise, the special effects & his co-stars make the day in a splendid, superhero adventure.

I would have expected a little more than a choice between fighting that which is without, to “surprise” implosions; in such a giant production.  But even an old sow cleans up, on occasion.  I do recommend the film for viewing.  One doesn’t miss anything that casts Evans or Johansson.

They even threw in the old, tottering liberal, Robert Redford!  In a surprise role.  Poor thing.  It’s a extended autumn for him.
