Certain provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire at midnight & the Senate is deadlocked on what to do. With surveillance & metadata collection on the table we have government officials that want to pass these past successful measures, without taking into account the cost to American freedom & privacy. Yet they have stopped attacks. It’s a conundrum.
However; is it really a good idea to stop all attacks at the expense of our freedoms? Hiding the facts, the who’s & what’s of what is attempting to attack us? Hoping that we won’t blame the Muslim world & the medieval foreign cultures.
McConnell needs to stop insisting that it’s either his way or the highway. There’s nothing wrong with letting the provisions expire. They should be debated & either put back in place, modified; or scrapped altogether. Not automatically renewed in thought & action.
