The government is large but the population of the US is larger. It’s not a difficult thing to wrap one’s head around. The government doesn’t care what you’re doing or saying. All they want to do is cast a robotic net out, using collection of metadata to catch terrorists of every kind. Yet, we have the foil hat crowd that still don’t understand it, because nuances & details slip easily by their flawed little brains. I’m just making a note here about this, because it’s commonsense, it’s common knowledge & it should be done.
Sure, sometimes the government targets individuals for whatever reason. But no government is big enough & no supercomputer is vast enough to listen to every conversation & make notes. Even if they wanted to. They don’t care about the individual. They care about looking for that nugget of gold in the ground. A signal of danger to point to time bombs. It’s a new age. There must be some adaptation, beyond what our 19th Century Founders could conceive with their feather quills & iron locks.
But, of course, everyone is free to be as paranoid as they please. There is some actual value in being so. It’s a backup, albeit a fantastical one, for honesty in government. However; it should never rule the day or govern those that are charged with protecting the Republic.
